SSG Sports Profiles
As science, technology, engineering, arts and math dramatically impact existing and new businesses within sports and entertainment, “STEAM Sports Executive Profiles” intend to share stories about many of those who are literally changing the face of those industries. The background of these individuals is what many would call a non-traditional entry into sports and entertainment, but that’s the point.
STEAM truly is changing the world of Sports & Entertainment.
Scott Jenkins, General Manager Mercedes-Benz Stadium/Board Chairman Green Sports Alliance
Construction. That’s what Scott Jenkins studied at the University of Wisconsin. Today, Jenkins is not only the General Manager of what many believe is the most technologically and environmentally advanced stadium in the world, Atlanta’s Mercedes- Benz Stadium; but he is also board chairman of the Green Sports Alliance, an environmentally focused organization that has grown to more than 600 sports related members.
Recruited from Seattle by Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank, Jenkins parlayed his construction degree into lead roles for the construction of new stadiums in Milwaukee (Brewers), Philadelphia (Eagles) and the Mariners. So when Blank came calling, the $1.5 billion MB facility was not a daunting one by any stretch of the imagination. Jenkins was able to put a lot of the science, technology, engineering, art/design and math he learned at Wisconsin and in prior builds to good use.
“When I interviewed with Arthur (Blank) and heard about his vision to redefine the stadium experience, I was hooked,” said Jenkins, who lead the Mercedes-Benz Stadium team that achieved a platinum LEED certification, the highest ever achieved by a sports stadium. “We challenged ourselves every step of the way to raise the bar on fan experience, architecture, technology, and sustainability that resulted in a truly world class sports and entertainment venue.”
